Turning NO into a YES!

During our job search we hear the word 'NO' a lot, but it's what we do with this that really  matters.  Hearing 'NO' so many times can take a toll on you as you seek out a new career, but you can turn the negative into a positive.

First and most importantly you have to understand and accept the fact that not every position you apply for is right for you or that you are the only one who can do this job.  Like you, there may be possibly thousands of other job seekers applying for the same position. They too are hoping this is the 'golden egg'.  The difference is what you decide to do with the 'NO' that is important.  Too many job seekers simply grumble and curse after receiving the dreaded 'Thanks, but No Thanks' or not hearing anything back at all.   You should be following-up with a thank you email or letter and letting the organization know you appreciate their time and consideration and to please keep your resume on file in the event that another position opens that better suits your education and professional experience/background.  Trust me, this will not go unnoticed.

Hearing 'NO' is just a part of our daily vocabulary and we must not take it so personally.  You should be grateful for having the opportunity to interview and each 'NO' is bringing you closer to your dream career/job.   I am always telling my clients to interview, interview and interview some more, even if you hear 'NO' over and over.  Each interview builds character and allows you to strengthen your interviewing skills.

Eliminating negative thought patterns and removing these from our everyday lives will provide a big payoff in the end.   So, turn that 'NO' into a 'Not at this time' and start looking more at the big picture.  Your next in line...
